Dan (1), I'll be at Marks this Saturday for a while. I have to bend a couple of peices of each size tubing to finish setting up the bend-tech program.

I'm off next Friday / Saturday / Sunday, if you want to build your cage.

Cool man, I may see if I can get next friday off. I'll try to swing by this Saturday to see the buggy project.

Did you happen to get those cage mount plates we talked about?
They also have some 2 bolt plates for tight areas.

Gary's also interested in them for his cage.

Not yet. I plan on ordering from RuffStuffSpecialties today.

Here's their selection:

http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/catalog/mounting-plates-c-10.html?osCsid=81111e95dbf636aaea04797043232c26

I planned on getting about a dozen of the four bolt plates and maybe 6 or 8 of the two bolt plates. All for the 1.75" tube.

Correction Dan,
I can't work Friday, I'm on grandson babysitting duty. He's a little too young to be put to work welding yet, but maybe next year.
I'm still on for Saturday and Sunday.

Yeah, but think of all the tight places he could get into for painting :laugh2:

More tubing was aquired yesterday, so the tubing rack is looking pretty well stocked.
Also aquired some new angle finders and a magnetic tab fixture for welding tabs and brackets on round tubing.

Getting excited about starting a new cage Saturday. I'm sure that will go away as soon as I mess up a bend.:roflmao:

Anyone interested in building a cage in the near future should come over to Marks (Sat or Sun) and see what goes into it.

PM me for directions.

Starting around 0830 Saturday morning. Hope to get everything bent up and tacked into place tomorrow.
Only 6 pieces to bend, and the rest is straight tubing, so if all goes well, we'll be able to pull the cage for finish welding and paint Sunday.

Good luck,
I'm just getting back in.
Depending on how things go with the Toyota and K20 tomorrow I may be by around Lunch for few.

The hardest part is done. We started with the B pillar and worked our way forward yesterday. A's and B are done and tied into the frame.
We start the C pillars this morning, then all the straight pieces to tie everything together.
I'm still optimistic that we can finish today.

Dan's cage is about 90% complete. We've pulled it out of the land rover for final welding (all the little places you can't reach with it in).
And we still have 2 spreader bars to cut and put above the rear seat as well as a few gussets here and there.
Pretty sure he took pictures and will post them soon.

It will be done, painted, and back in by next weekend.

I've been thinking about that dash bar, I think maybe Mark is right about putting one in.

Gunny
11-02-2009, 11:57 AM
O KEY DO KEY, I'll put one in. Just below the windshield glass, right?

slorocco
11-02-2009, 12:58 PM
I think that's right. I believe what we had talked about was at about the same height as the mag light clips. Looks like I may be back on thursday now. I'm off Friday so I should be able to get some work done over there on Friday if Mark doesn't mind. I can do some finish welding or clean/prep/paint kind of stuff. I need to wrap this up and get it out of Marks way. I also need to sort out the brakes before the turkey run.

DaffyXJ

Looks good Dan.

Brakes? You don't need Brakes.... Just Ask Dion and Mike Henry... They don't use Brakes.

Make sure you cover the glass real good at the corners before attaching the dash bar. Doesn't take much splatter to destroy a windshield.
Go Ahead, Ask me How I Know.

OK, How I Know?
Cage is out of the vehicle, so spatter will be now where near the windshield.:D

Grinder sparks will do the same thing, ask me how I know that :loser: I got a spare windshield and frame in the garage somewhere. What I'd like to get some time is the heated from glass panels. No more fogg and ice problems then.

All right Dan, I installed the windshield bar and the two top spreaders tonight.
Top sides all welded and I flipped it before I came home for dinner.
Tomorrow I'll finish the bottom side welds and install the gussets and handles.

Should have it all finished and at the least prepared for paint before you get back Thursday. Maybe more.
Any preference for paint other than black rattle can?

Alright now, you guys are scaring me with these paint recommendations. I'm 250 miles away at this point. Other folks are taking extreme liberties in messing with my schedule up here so, I'm still not sure it I'm heading back thursday evening or friday morning.

Color preferences are either black or silver, silver. A cold galvanized type paint would match all the other galvanized trim pieces. I'll plan on that for saturday.

Cage is done Dan. Finished the bottom side welding and gussets last night, and started cleaning up the metal.
I'll finish cleaning up the cage tonight or Thursday and get some primer on it.

If your not back here by Friday, I'm not sure I can stop the creative flow of florescent paints.

Hey man, If someone is going to paint it for free I guess I'll take what ever color it ends up being. I hate painting.

Looks like I'm stuck up here in Jersey all day today so I'll be driving back tomorrow morning.

I'll pick up the paint today on my way home. Want to get it primed tonight, painted tomorrow, Installed Saturday morning.

Hey Dan, I already bought the paint. You did say "If someone is going to paint it for free I guess I'll take what ever color it ends up being"
Don't worry, would I do something like that to you?:D
It's in primer now.
I'm going to take a half day off work tomorrow and try and get it painted, if the weather gets warm enough.

Well, the cage is done! Sorry about the lack of picks I'll try to get a few better pics up tomorrow. Major thanks to Jim and Mark for all the help. Also thanks for the help from the wrap up crew today, Ben, Derik, Leslie, and Sabrina all pitched in to get the cage installed and the roof back on.

The cage looks so good, I may have to go topless soon.

No problem man.

Oh, by the way, for those of you that weren't there you missed a great lunch. Wendy made some excellent chili that really hit the spot for lunch.
