Default USER NOTICE! Profile Change

I have added a field in the user profile section. It is for your NAME!
We often lose track of who is who, and would like for you to include your name in your profile. It is a hidden field and will not show up on the forum except to Admins and Moderators.
It is NOT a required field, but if you would take some time to add your name to your profile it will help us in identifying membership issues, ensure club info gets to the correct users and help tie a name/face to a screen name.
Thanks

Derik

I think it would also help the "regular members" but not sure how you could display the names...

Great idea! Would anyone object to having their first name posted in their user profile and on the forum so all of the members will have the opportunity to put names and faces together? It would be helpful since we have so many new members in the club.

The way to do what you want is to use your real name as a signature if you want, or in your signature block.

What Derik is doing here is trying to keep track of membership dues among other things, where making your name public isn't required.

Thanks.

No objections from me. Might be a good topic for discussion at the meeting tomorrow night.

If that's what we want, don't we already get the names when someone registers for an account?

No, we don't. It wasn't turned on to input your name, just an email. Derik just turned it on and it's still an opional field. With the club and forum growing as it is, we would like to better track the members and forum users.

After reading everyones posts it looks like both the administrative and the general membership of HRC have a desire to tie real names to screen names. Some folks may be asking why, or who cares that something so simple needed for an administrative purpose generates an entire thread. It is like Jim and Derik said, HRC is growing...

This is really cool for two reasons. First it shows our club has established a good reputation and people want to join. The second thing it shows is our members want to communicate with one another and be active participants.

There is also a legitimate concern about posting full names and other information about themselves on the internet. Gunny (Jim ) made a good point that we could just add our name to our signature block. How will that option be conveyed to new members and guest members to the forum? Is there a way to make a note on the login account page?

Another simple solution could be to post a poll and have the members decide how they would like thier information handled.

It is one of the simple, yet first of many, growing pains HRC will go through as we continue to grow and are putting ourselves on the off-roading map.

Whoo-hooo...... Let's Wheel!
