No worries dude no rush. I wasn't going to go to the meeting either I just wanted to make sure if you did go someone would catch up with you. Whenever you find it let me know and the next time I head down to SOMD I could go that route and possibly swing by your place. Or if you happen to see Rob, Toyota Dan or David sooner than I do, I can get with them fairly easily. you want a little $$ or beer?

Looks like I will be there today. And I found it. I'll pass it along to Rob, Dan, or David of I see them. I don't need anything for it unless you want to buy me a beer the next time you see me.

Ok sounds good. Are you going to Ice Breakers? I know Rob and Dan are.

So I took a quick moment last night to try to replace the rear output seal on the NP241 as it looked as though it was leaking. Went ahead and pulled the driveshaft and that's where the "fun" began. I noticed a good bit of slop in the yoke and rear output shaft. I then pulled the CV yoke flange and could feel A TON of in/out slop on the rear output shaft. I took a video and posted the link below.

YouTube link

A couple of us thought it may be a snap ring. So I did some research and supposedly the Chevy's were prone to break rear output shaft snap rings. however, I believe the snap ring that is prone to failure sits in front of the last bearing to go on the shaft. This snap ring I believe is replaced by the bearing retainer and seal by JB Conversions.

I put in a call to JB Conversions and was told John will have to call me back when he gets in. So I will see what he has to say. This evening I will try to tear into it more and take off the rear speedo housing.

Any knowledge on this or thoughts on things to look for, let me know.

I have the back half of a busted 241 if you want it.

I forgot yours had an SYE. That half may not be useful to you.

Josh, thanks but I actually pulled the rear Speedo housing and everything looked fine. I spoke with John from JBC yesterday and he said to also measure the splines on the yoke/flange and to make sure the bearing in the Speedo housing is not stock and has the 1/4in extra "lip extension". Bearing looked good but when I measured the splines on the flange, they measured 1 3/8 vs the 1 3/4 that John said it should be. Which wouldn't you know it, the difference is right about how much play I have when the nut is tightened down. So far I have left a voicemail yesterday and this morning trying to get a hold of him since he said call back, but no luck. They are closed until Monday so it looks like I will have to wait until then to figure out a solution with him.

A thought though, the yoke flange has a "neck" to where the seal goes up too. If I can push the yoke against the bearing and the seal goes against that neck, could I feasibly just put 3/8in worth of shims/washer under the yoke nut to make up the difference it needs? Does the seal need to go all the way up to that neck or I assume as long as the yoke slips through its good? If the shims need to be between the bearing and yoke however I think a new yoke is a better solution. Thoughts?
