Default Need ideas why my jeep wont pass emissions.

I have a 95 wrangler and the motor is 100% stock 2.5L 4 cyl. No check engine lights fixed it with a o2 sensor and map sensor. new fuel filter and plugs. have used combustion cleaner but nothing seems to help. it runs great. but it keeps failing for Nox. i think i am doubling the max allowed ammount. Is there any known problems with these things that make them fail nox? any help would be appreciated.

More info is needed, like what is nox?
Do you have a clogged CAT, or crushed exhaust pipe?
Are you running oversized tires?

I'm no expert but sounds like your Cat is toast.

Yes without a cat unburned gas makes it out. look for the obvious. Is your emissions system fully intact? Steering and suspension ok? I here thier pretty strict about that stuff up here. Brakes up to par? Lights? Any exhaust leaks?

Here's some info from the MVA website.

Oxides of nitrogen (Nox) failure - exceeds established standards for oxides of nitrogen emissions.

What they say to look for...
  • Engine air to fuel mixture may be too lean.
  • Engine’s oxygen sensor may not be functioning properly.
  • Improper operation of the Exhaust Gas Re-Circulation (EGR) system (if equipped).
  • Malfunction of the engine spark advance system.
  • Air intake temperature may be too high.
  • Cooling system may not be functioning properly.
  • Catalytic converter may be partially clogged or not properly functioning.
  • Carbon deposits on the engine intake valves.

I removed the air restrictor in the intake tube..... maybe its getting more air than it thinks and leaning out causing the combustion to be hotter and rasing my NoX. Hmmmm

Im almost positive that if you can come up with recipts totaling more than $500.00 of related items(tune-up stuff and dio time) the mva will give you a waiver

If the restrictor did not impact the functioning of your mass flow sensor it should not have caused a problem.
